Introducing PO8
Since last year our team has been working endless hours in different time zones around the world to make this day possible — the official launching of PO8. This is a proud moment for us in The Bahamas and the marine archaeology community as a whole. We’re excited to share we are officially the first blockchain technology company coming out of The Bahamas, and we can’t wait for you to join us on this exploratory journey, as we set off to the high seas recovering some of history’s long lost treasures and share them with the world.
Inspired by the many shipwrecks in our very own Bahamian waters and the current challenges our industry faces today in recovering them, we look to blockchain and our community to come up with working solutions. No longer will the division across competing interest groups — archaeological, commercial and public — get in the way of true progress. Our mission is simple: Create a blockchain ecosystem that will democratize the recovery of historical artifacts from our ocean floors, and decentralize the distribution of high value artifacts worldwide in a secure and transparent manner.
PO8 has been working closely with the Maritime Affairs and Labour Department from the Ministry of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and has recently acquired an Abandoned Shipwreck salvage license. The acquisition of this license is a major milestone, considering licenses have not been issued for the last 18 years. Receiving this license illustrates the dedication we have for preserving the past and The Bahamas’ vote of confidence in our mission. Together with our community we can ensure the successful implementation and enforcement of archaeological standards in commercial salvage for the protection of cultural artifacts.
The Market Opportunity
With over 3 million shipwrecks worldwide and billions of dollars worth in lost treasures and artifacts, let’s just say there is a lot of work ahead of us. With an industry that has been rapidly evolving with technological advances in sonar, magnetometers, GPS and autonomous vehicles (ROV/AUV), among others, cost for deep sea recovery expeditions can easily go into the millions. This barrier to entry makes it feasible for only a handful of companies with resources to enter. PO8 will break those barriers down and allow millions worldwide to participate.
Our Ecosystem
We are introducing blockchain to do what governments and non-profits fall short on. We are leveraging blockchain technology to create a unique ecosystem providing a more sustainable industry while bringing competing interest groups to work together. We achieve this through the PO8 Four-Pronged Ecosystem — Foundation, Auction, Registry and Reserve (FARR).
- Foundation: The PO8 Foundation will be a custodial recipient of some of the discovered artifacts to be shared with the world to view through traveling exhibitions.
- Auction: Our decentralized auction platform ensuring responsible commerce of historical artifacts while providing a secure, transparent and cost effective place to buy and sell precious treasures.
- Registry: Our decentralized registry system creates a method to identify historical artifacts and certify their authenticity permitting government agencies, museums and organizations to register historic artifacts.
- Reserve: A portion of the recovered treasures such as gold and silver will be placed in the P08 reserve and pegged to the P08 token, resulting in PO8 Stablecoin.
Our Products
- Maritime Artifact Database System (MADS) allows anyone from around the world to help in the search and recovery efforts of long lost artifacts. Through proof of stake, PO8 token holders can participate and complete any of our bounty tasks and earn free tokens. Bounty tasks include but not limited to analyzing data such as sonar, magnetometer, geo mapping, historical records, weather patterns, video feeds and more.
- PO8 Historical Artifact Registry System (PHARS) is a decentralized registry platform used to identify historical artifacts and certify their authenticity, through the creation of unique signature identifications that live in the blockchain indefinitely.
- Government Artifact Auction System (GAAS) serves as a secure escrow service allowing governments, museums and non-profit organizations to register and authenticate artifact treasures to buy, sell and auction historical artifacts between one another. All users of the platform are validated to ensure they are government entities.
- Historic Open Auction Platform (HOAP) establishes a safe and transparent decentralized auction house ensuring responsible commerce of artifacts. This permits P08 to auction off a fraction of the recovered treasures and, subsequently, the open sourcing of the platform to anyone looking to create their own auction for high-end artifacts and treasures on the blockchain.
